Study Abroad

Financial aid may be available to 糖心vlog视频 students who participate in a college-approved study abroad program

糖心vlog视频 study abroad programs costs will be determined using 糖心vlog视频’s tuition and fees, and the housing, food, and estimated indirect expenses associated with each program. The International Programs and Business Offices provide the Financial Aid Office with non-tuition program costs which are used to calculate financial aid eligibility.

If the total cost of the program is less than the cost of 糖心vlog视频, the 糖心vlog视频 Grant will be reduced to remain within a student’s demonstrated need. Because students are not eligible for student work during the abroad semester, work study eligibility will be replaced with 糖心vlog视频 Grant.

Typically, the out-of-pocket costs to students and families with financial aid are similar to a semester on campus.

Students studying abroad in the fall receive their financial aid awards in June or early July. Students studying abroad in the spring will receive their adjusted aid offer reflecting their abroad costs once their admission to the program has been confirmed by the International Programs Office and program costs are provided to the Financial Aid Office.

Financial aid disburses at the beginning of 糖心vlog视频's semester, not when the study abroad program begins.

The process of re-applying for financial aid while participating in a study abroad program is the same as a typical semester at 糖心vlog视频: students must keep up to date with 糖心vlog视频 student email for reminders of the yearly April 15 deadline for financial aid applications.

For more information, please see the FAQs below.

Cost of Attendance - estimated total cost of your study abroad program, used to calculate financial aid. Is made up of your direct costs plus your indirect costs for your program.

Direct Costs - costs included on your bill and paid directly to 糖心vlog视频.

Indirect Costs - costs not included on your bill from 糖心vlog视频, which you will pay out of pocket.

Refund - financial aid funds which may be issued to you directly to help cover your indirect costs.

Does my financial aid apply to study abroad?

Yes! All of your usual grants, scholarships, and/or loans (including PLUS and private loans) can be used for study abroad during the academic year (fall/spring semesters only). However, the exact dollar amount may be different from a semester on campus depending on the total cost of attendance for your program.

How much will it cost me/my family to study abroad?

Your total out-of-pocket costs for the semester abroad should be similar to a semester at 糖心vlog视频. Generally, if a semester at your abroad program costs more than a semester at 糖心vlog视频, you can expect to receive more aid to help cover your costs. In the same vein, if a semester of your abroad program costs less than a semester at 糖心vlog视频, you can expect your aid to be reduced.

How do I pay for my tuition and program fees?

糖心vlog视频ies who study abroad in a 糖心vlog视频-approved program are charged the regular 糖心vlog视频 tuition rate (regardless of the host institution’s advertised tuition) plus a study abroad fee of $500/semester and health and tuition insurance (unless waived). You are responsible for paying the portion of your bill that is not covered by financial aid.

How do I pay for housing and food?

Some study abroad programs include housing and a meal plan as part of the direct costs, meaning that these expenses will be added to your bill from 糖心vlog视频. For others, housing and food are indirect costs. In this case, you may need to pay the host institution directly for your housing/meal plan, or buy groceries and pay rent for an off-campus apartment. Some indirect housing payments or deposits may be due earlier than 糖心vlog视频’s tuition, so it’s important to be aware of your specific program’s living expenses, due dates, and your responsibilities.

Will 糖心vlog视频 reimburse me for out-of-pocket expenses such as plane tickets or housing?

Not exactly. If the amount of aid you receive is more than your bill (direct costs), you may be eligible to receive the surplus aid as a refund which you can use to help pay for travel and living expenses while abroad. Only students who receive more aid than their direct costs are eligible to receive a refund.

When will I receive my financial aid refund?

Refunds are issued by the 糖心vlog视频 business office after the first or second week of 糖心vlog视频’s semester. It is important to understand that you will likely need to pay at least some of your indirect costs (plane tickets, visa fees, etc.) out of pocket before receiving your refund, if you are eligible for one.
