Students take note - Attendance policy for PE classes:
Students are allowed to miss maximally the number of classes per quarter as the class meets per week in order to be eligible to receive PE credit for participation. Example - If a class is scheduled 1X/week, students can only miss one class and still be eligible to receive PE credit, if a class is scheduled to meet 2X/week, students can only miss 2 classes throughout the quarter. As attendance is the primary requirement for PE courses, there are no excused absences or make-up sessions.
Students are expected to arrive for class no later than 5 minutes after the scheduled start of the class, and remain actively engaged in the class until the end of the session and are dismissed by the instructor/coach. Otherwise, the class session will be counted as an absence. Please be respectful and adhere to these guidelines; late arrivals and early departures are disruptive to others in the class and the instructor.
There are no excused absences, medical or otherwise, and includes; religious holidays, pre-scheduled or last-minute events, etc.
There will be no additional make-up sessions offered to students by PE instructors.
Active participation is required and necessary for the practice and acquisition of the skills taught in PE classes. Students will not meet the attendance requirement if they just show up and not participate due to illness, injury or other circumstances.
If a class session is cancelled by the PE department due to uncontrollable circumstances i.e. instructor illness, inclement weather, etc. this class session will NOT count against the student’s attendance.
Students should only register for a PE course if you have no known pre-existing schedule conflicts and you are confident that you will be able to attend all (or nearly all) scheduled classes. If you know this course is scheduled to meet on a day or days that you will not be attending, you should consider taking this course during a different term when there is not a known pre-existing schedule conflict.
